Smokin' Hot Quilts:  A Havasu Stitchers Project Honoring Lake Havasu City Firefighters

In Spring 2023, Havasu Stitchers received a large donation of fabric and sewing items from the Shank family. With this donation, Havasu Stitcher Terrie Eller suggested a new Community Outreach quilt project to the Havasu Stitchers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promoting the art and education of quilting, to make quilts for all our Lake Havasu City Firefighters.  We currently have 6 fire stations in our city, and a 7th fire station is in the planning stages.

We had a display of some of the 100 quilts our members made at the Lake Havasu City Office lobby.  This display was from October 22, 2024, to November 1, 2024.

On November 5, 2024, we had a distribution event at the Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center with Mayor Cal Sheehy and Fire Chief Pete Pilifas.  The Robert Shank family was presented with a finished Grandmother's Garden quilt that his mother started.  Thanks go to Phyllis Barton for finishing the hand piecing on it, Kevin Cabbage for quilting it, and Jeannette Kennedy for binding it.  Thanks to all who participated in making this a wonderful event.

Pictured below are Havasu Stitcher Anastasia Swinkles, Deputy Fire Chief Garrett Roberts, Havasu Stitcher Terrie Eller, and Fire Chief Pete Pilifas.  Also pictured is the repository of Firefigher Quilts awaiting their new homes.
