Dear Stitcher,

Whether you are a “newbie” or a returning member, we bid you a warm WELCOME! We hope you are able to make new friends, possibly connect with some old ones, but in all cases develop the love of quilting that has brought us all together.

The purpose of this organization is to contribute to the knowledge of and to promote the appreciation of fine quilts; to sponsor and support quilting activities; to encourage quilt making and collecting; to contribute to the growth of knowledge of quilting techniques, textiles, patterns, history and quilt makers through education.

Our roots go back to October 2, 1992, when 31 members, me not being one, organized and formed the Havasu Stitchers. It was also at this time that we became a chapter affiliated with the Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG), located in Phoenix, AZ.

Our general membership meeting is held on the second Thursday of every month at Quality Inn, 271 Lake Havasu Ave, Lake Havasu City, AZ, 86403 Havasu Room, enter at side parking lot.  The meeting starts at 6:30 PM, but come early to meet & greet each other and see what new classes to sign up for, etc. Our Board meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at our Local Library at 6:00 PM and all are welcome.

The educational opportunities available through the Guild extend throughout the year. Some of the classes we offer are taught by our own members, while others are presented by educators, made available to us through the AQG, or by members of the quilting community at large. Besides classes, we have activities such as Show & Tell, Friendship Groups, and Featured Quilter of the month.  In addition we are part of community events such as, Spring Frenzy, Balloon Fest and Winter Fest. Then there are quilting camps held in Laughlin and in Prescott. In addition, our winter retreat held in January “Quilting at the Lake” located in Lake Havasu is another education event that has grown to 5 days filled with nationally known teachers as well as some of our local talent.

We are also committed to giving back to our local area through Community Outreach, when members meet monthly and stitch quilted projects and other items that are donated. Another event is National Quilt Day, where we display our skills and collect non-perishable food to help supplement our local Food Bank.

The Havasu Stitchers also do a semi-annual Quilt Show. “Bridge of Friendship” will be held the first weekend of November, every odd year, at the Aquatic Center. We encourage you to become involved with this happening by making a quilt to display and also by volunteering. It takes every member to make this gathering a success.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact one of the Board members or your current Chapter President.

Again, a hardy WELCOME!

Catherine Stephan
